Real experiences from real travelers
We took the train from Tokyo and it was totally worth it. The ninja show was incredible—high energy and great stunts. My kids loved dressing up as ninjas for the day. Highly recommend booking the ticket in advance to skip the line.
The attention to detail is amazing. It really feels like the Edo period. The food inside was surprisingly good too. Only 4 stars because the bus from the station was a bit confusing to find, but the park itself is fantastic.
I loved the Oiran parade. It was so elegant and beautiful. The staff are all in character and very friendly. Even in winter, the scenery was beautiful with a little snow.
We spent 5 hours here and didn't get bored. The costume rental is a must! It makes the photos so much better. The ticket price is fair for the quality of the shows included.
Combined this with the temples. It's a fun contrast to the serious shrines. The samurai show was funny and engaging even without knowing much Japanese. A fun day out.
The Mizugei-za water magic show was like nothing I've seen before. Very traditional and mysterious. The whole village is like a movie set. Loved it!
The architecture is beautiful. It's a bit of a walk from the bus stop but worth it. The 'Hell Temple' was a spooky surprise!
We booked the pass with the costume rental included. The staff helped us dress in Kimonos and we took amazing photos. The Ninja maze was tricky but fun.
Everything you need to know for your journey
Absolutely. While kids love the ninja activities, adults appreciate the historical accuracy, the intricate architecture, the cultural comedy of the magistrate show, and the sophisticated Oiran procession.
Most visitors spend between 4 to 6 hours to catch the main shows (Ninja, Magic, Oiran) and explore the village at a leisurely pace.
The park remains open in rain, and most theaters are indoors. However, the outdoor Oiran parade may be cancelled or modified in severe weather.
The shows are performed in Japanese, but they are highly visual (action, magic, physical comedy) so non-Japanese speakers can easily enjoy them. Some provide English synopsis handouts.
Yes, the 'Jiku' costume rental shop offers a wide range of outfits including samurai, princess, merchant, and ninja styles for men, women, and children.
Yes, there are several restaurants inside. While the menu is traditional (soba, udon, rice), you can find non-meat options like vegetable tempura or plain soba noodles.
Take the Tobu Line from Asakusa to Kinugawa-Onsen Station (approx. 2 hours), then a 15-20 minute bus ride directly to the park.
Most of the main streets are flat but unpaved (packed earth). Theaters have wheelchair priority areas, though some traditional buildings may have steps.
Major credit cards are accepted at ticket counters and souvenir shops, but some smaller food stalls may prefer cash. It's wise to carry some Yen.
Yes, there are coin lockers available near the entrance gate to store large bags or suitcases while you explore.
Try to arrive by 9:30 AM or 10:00 AM. This gives you time to rent a costume before the first round of shows starts around 10:30 AM.
Photography is generally allowed in the village, but flash photography and video recording are strictly prohibited during most theater performances to protect the actors.
